Owners' comments
We loved living in Scarborough Terrace so much that when we moved away from Wellington we kept our house because we knew it was the only place we wanted to live in Wellington if we decided to come back. We are only selling now because we are definitely not returning to Wellington.
Scarborough Terrace is a very quiet and friendly street. We know all our neighbours and every year the street is closed off for a street party.
When we bought the house it was a 2-bedroom cottage with a lean to kitchen. We entirely rebuilt the back part of the house (kitchen, bathroom and upstairs bedroom). All the plumbing and wiring in the house was renewed at this time. The builder was a personal friend of ours so we know it has been done to a very high standard. The wall at the rear is made of steel reinforced concrete so it is very strong and it's effectively a retaining wall. Our builder commented that the framing of the old part of the house is made of Rimu and so solid you would need a bulldozer to move it.
The house is in a very sunny, warm and sheltered spot and we like lots of light so we have lots of windows, French doors and skylights.
Because we enjoy to be outside we created a tiled patio in the front of the house which is a very warm place to sit and eat or drink al fresco and we built a bridge from the upstairs bedroom straight out to the garden at the back.
Another great feature are the two large garages, which is really unusual in Mount Victoria where many garages are too small to get a car in.
The garden is a beautiful spot to see the town and a good viewpoint for the fireworks on bonfire night. We used to have a hot tub on the lawn at the top, which we heated up using wood from the town belt.
One of the best things for us was having direct access to the town belt behind the house. We often walked over the hill down to Oriental Bay for a swim all the way through the woods. Also being dog owners it was extremely handy.
In short, living at this location has all the benefits one would want. Being in the middle of the city, but having a green belt in your backyard, quiet, sunny and sheltered from Wellington's wind and it used to take our son 5 minutes to run to the College nearby.
I'm sure whoever buys our house will love living there as much as we did.
